Dr. Daryl MacCarter graduated from Medical School at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.  He then completed his medicine residency training at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, Connecticut and Yale-New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut.  Dr. MacCarter completed his fellowship training in rheumatology at the University of Michigan in Ann Harbor.  He is board certified in both rheumatology and internal medicine. He founded the Idaho Arthritis and Osteoporosis Center in 2000 after relocating from Denver, Colorado where he practiced rheumatology for twenty years.  He also held an academic position at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and VA hospital for five years.  Dr. MacCarter was also Chief of Rheumatology at Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Denver for fifteen years. He currently holds a teaching appointment at the University of Washington as a clinical assistant professor of medicine.

In addition to his M.D. degree, Dr. MacCarter also has a Masters Degree in Pharmacology. He was also nominated and awarded the status of F.A.C.P. (Fellow American College of Physicians) in 1985.  He is currently on the Speakers Bureau for Amgen, Lilly Pharmaceuticals, Proctor & Gamble, Rosch and GlaxoSmithKline.  Dr. MacCarter is also on the advisory board for Abbott Pharmaceuticals and Amgen.  He has been a guest lecturer on the subject of scleroderma at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands and also on the subject of pseudogout at the University of Heidelberg in Germany.

Dr. MacCarter’s current practice includes the treatment of all rheumatic diseases including lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.  His special interests include the diagnosis and treatment of pseudogout and osteoporosis.  He also serves as the principal investigator for numerous clinical trials in rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis and osteoporosis.  Dr. MacCarter enjoys sailing, biking and hiking with his wife and two sons.



Dr. Mikael Lagwinski is Board Certified in both Rheumatology and Internal Medicine.  Dr. Lagwinski graduated Magna Cum Laude from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio.  He then went on to Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine (NEOUCOM) where he obtained his Medical Degree in 1999.  After completing his Internal Medicine residency he was accepted into the Rheumatology Fellowship Program at University Hospitals of Cleveland which he finished in 2004.

During his medical school and residency he volunteered at the Open-M Clinic in Akron, Ohio which provides free health care for impoverished patients.  Dr. Lagwinski has continued his volunteering activities through the Volunteer Physician Newtwork in Boise as a specialist in Rheumatology as well as at the Garden City Community Clinic.

After working in Texas for two years, he joined Idaho Arthritis and Osteoporosis Center in July 2006. Dr. Lagwinski was instrumental in pioneering the incorporation of Musculoskeletal Ultrasound into the practice adding a new dimension in the diagnosis and care of arthritis.  Dr. Lagwinski is the first and only rheumatologist in Idaho who has undergone training in interpreting Musculoskeletal Ultrasound.  He immigrated to the United States in 1989 from Denmark and speaks three languages.  He enjoys skiing, hiking and spending time with his family.
